A fun Netflix rom-com with creative visuals.
"This had me grinning from ear to ear the whole time.
I love a great rom-com that reminds me how lonely I am lol. That’s what they’re for, and this nailed it. What’s great about this film, compared to other book to film adaptations, is that it translates well both ways. Even haven’t read the book, you can easily picture how the plot flows, and how the writers translated the story to film. All in all, it was easy to follow.
“I can’t stop rewatching this”
I can count on one hand the number of movies I’ve seen where the male character falls for the girl first instead of the other way around. It’s so refreshing to see a film flip some tropes around, not to mention this movie was just very fun to watch! The cast did an amazing job and I’m hoping they make the other books from the trilogy into movies as well.
"Lara Jean’s story is a nightmare that evolves into a daydream"
In real life, high school can be pretty ugly. Everyone is dealing with the pressures of impending adulthood while also trying to craft some sort of personality and plan for the future that constantly looms overhead. Meanwhile, social situations only grow more perplexing as childhood begins to fade into the background.
"Admittedly, I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy"
For the past year, Netflix has been trying to put their foot into every door possible. This year it seems as if Netflix is determined to make the romance genre yet another weapon in their arsenal. Last year we saw the release of the Christmas Prince, which was met with wide acclaim - particularly from those of us who regularly tune into the Hallmark Channel during the holidays.
"I'm really not a rom-com person"
I can't stand cheesy romance at all. So I expected to be sort of nauseated by this movie. Admittedly, during the first half of the movie I wasn't totally into it - I was sort of put off by what I thought was a lack of realism. But as the movie went on, I realized that it wasn't unrealistic at all, at least not in the way that matters.
"Gets pretty visually creative at times"
B. This is a fun rom com with an interesting plot, mostly good performances, and a decent script. You’ve probably seen it already, but if you haven’t, check it out. It more or less meets the hype.
