Hereditary | Official Trailer
Hereditary is one of the best movies of the year
"Hereditary was wildddd"
Hereditary in my opinion is the best film that has come out this year and is one of the best horror films I have seen in a while. Many horror films I have seen just throw out random jump scares to try and get a quick jump out of the audience, but these can become predictable and repetitive. Hereditary is not that kind of movie. Instead of using some lousy jump scares Hereditary chooses to play with the audience’s mind throughout the entirety of the film, showing some gruesome and twisted scenes.
"I wanted to kill myself in the best of ways"
(too dark? don't see this movie)
"Don't even bother trying to guess what's going to happen.
Hereditary shook me to the core and made me try to remember a time when a movie crept me out this much. I've seen my fair share of horror films... and when I heard about how scary it was at SXSW I didn't know what to expect when it came out in theaters. Don't even bother trying to guess what's going to happen. Expect the unexpected. This is by far one of my favorite horror films yet.
"I’m a bit stuck with this movie.
I’m a bit stuck with this movie. On one hand, it is technically brilliant. The script, directing, cinematography, editing, and all other technical aspects work perfectly together. Plus, the acting is all fantastic. But on the other hand, I just didn’t enjoy it. It was a bit too dark and messed up for me, and I found myself annoyed and frustrated by it overall. I appreciate the amount of skill and hard work put into the movie, both of which are extremely impressive, but in the end, it isn’t my kind of film. Admittedly, I’m also not much of a horror fan in the first place, so this one was a bit doomed from the start for me.
I am a little baby
"I wouldn’t say Hereditary is scary; I would say it’s terrifying.
Some horror movies rely on cheap jump scares. But then they give you a moment of relief. The scares may come, but they don’t stick around because there is no real substance behind them. Hereditary is not that type of horror film.
"There are shots in this film that will be etched in my brain forever"
I’ve learned to enjoy some mainstream horrors (A QUIET PLACE, THE CONJURING 1 & 2), but my soft spot with horror lies in the indie world. When I found out about HEREDITARY, I got excited for many reasons: 1. A24, and 2. All the buzz it was getting from festivals since Sundance. I went to SXSW, but I could not see it, as I was working a tiresome volunteer schedule & I wanted some sleep (they screened it at midnight). However, I am glad I was able to wait 3 months to watch this film because it is a true cinematic experience.
"The less you know the better on this one"
A-. Just know that if you like well directed horror movies with good acting and freaky imagery, this is the one for you. (It doesn't always follow its own rules, but that's ok considering how much it has going for it.
